Hello,
Does anyone know how to get the FaceBook uploader for photos working under Arch64 running Gnome/FireFox. The simple uploader works but the Java one doesn't.
Thanks.

I have never gotten it to work. I use the simple one.

One of the disadvantages with the simple one is that it doesn't appear to compress images before uploading making it much slower.
Surely there must be a way of getting it to work with Linux?

The java plugin doesn't work natively on Arch 64.
You'll have to run firefox in a 32 bit chroot, or a 32 bit version of it through libraries.
Madly in love with Arch64, Openbox, DotA, and of course... penguins!

How would I go about doing either of these? Thanks.

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arc … bit_system
That article will show you how to do the 32 bit chroot.
To use the lib32 approach look at bin32-firefox in the AUR. I'd recommend the previous method though as it'd probably make getting java working a lot easier.

Have you tried installing jre_beta from the AUR? This installs the jre 6u12 (beta), which runs natively on 64 bit. I haven't found any applets yet that don't work now! (Don't have a facebook account....). It's been perfectly stable for me...no issues at all.

extra/openjdk6 1.3.1-2
Free Java environment based on OpenJDK 6.0 with IcedTea6 replacing binary
plugs.
IcedTea Web Browser Plugin
File name: IcedTeaPlugin.so
The IcedTea Web Browser Plugin 1.3.1 executes Java applets.
Tried that?

I have OpenJDK and IcedTea and the last time I tried a file upload it still didn't work. That OpenJDK still doesn't work on all the java applets out there -- last time I tried a few anyway ('bout 2 months ago).

The following would seem to suggest that you can indeed get the FaceBook Java applet running under an x64 Linux environment.

Has anyone tried this in Arch?

The picture upload takes forever to work for me (using i686 firefox), but opera it worked like a charm.

Not sure how to do this part of the instructions detailed in the guide I linked above:
sudo update-alternatives --install "/usr/bin/java" "java" "/opt/java/jre1.6.0_12/bin/java" 1
sudo update-alternatives --set java /opt/java/jre1.6.0_12/bin/java

Have you tried http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22264 ?
I use it on my Arch64 install with no issues so far.

I'm not entirely sure I understand how to install it.

You don't need the beta since sun has release the stable version!

So how do I install it? Preferably using pacman.

Or you could use the latest digikam and upload the pictures through the kipi-plugins
