Can't install on my laptop

Im using the CD, so, I started of the way it should, booting up and such.  I partitioned it.  (I have used linux before by the way) But, just to make sure that I was doing it right, I googled a guide, and found one..  But for some reason the cd I have doesn't seem to want me to install a kernel... Like, its not even on the list.  But, I thought maybe its because I already had linux installed (ubuntu).  So, after I prepared the harddrive, I went to select Packages, Just keep hitting enter, then no (default) when something pops up then base-devel (package Catagories) then manually select all of them tongue just to be safe.

Next, I go to install packages, jeep hitting enter and such.  After it starts, a warning comes up "warning: couldn't create package cache, using /tmp instead" but, it keeps going.......  "retrieving packages from core"...............   And done, without an error.  Okay, so next Configure System.  No to all of the "do you need support for..........." nano text editor don't configure anything, last time I tried editing root password it wouldn't let me and I had to hard shut off my laptop.  Next thing I can do is install bootloader.  So, I do it tongue  Grub "Error:  Couldn;t find /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lst.  Is GRUB installed?" (Yes it is)..... Next is Exit Install...  So I did tongue.  type reboot like it tells me to... It reboots.

I take the CD out...  Then the grub thing pops up  "GRUB" and thats all it does... Any idea? lol.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't install on my laptop

Try not just hitting enter through the whole install, and reading the Beginners Guide:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide

You also won't have to select the kernel from any list.  It's installed by default.
