Problem with time/clock

For whatever reason, the output of "date" is about 4 hours ahead. How can I make sure that my stsem is set up right?

In /etc/rc.conf I have:

LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
USEDIRECTISA="no"
TIMEZONE="US/Eastern"
KEYMAP="us"
CONSOLEFONT=
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

Re: Problem with time/clock

I had a problem similar to this, but with only one hour and now use OpenNTPD. There's a wiki article about it that was helpful for me.
