I was very surprised when I could not locate the menu in Ardour... looked up, and it was on the panel
Now, the question is, why is it working with Ardour and not working with everything else?
Have you Syued today?

can you describe what you have done to configure this? i doubt your system wide environment variable isn't set.

Hey jarryson, you gave me the idea: I put:
export GTK_MODULES=globalmenu-gnome
in /etc/profile and now everything is working correctly.
Thanks a lot!

I believe it works fine if it is set in rc.local as well.

Actually that entry was already in /etc/rc.local before, but didn't work. I don't really know why...

firefox and thunderburd works for you ? coz i just see the name of the program and nothing else, the rest of the programs works
Offline
Nope, it only works with pure Gtk apps, surely all the GNOME apps work with it.

Anyone have any luck compiling the latest revision? It seems that the gtk/dbus issue is back again.

Successful with rev 1577. Had to update to vala 0.5.1 to get it to compile.

Actually that entry was already in /etc/rc.local before, but didn't work. I don't really know why...
cause system export this value when start, but maybe will export it again later.
and i think put it in /etc/profile isn't a good idea.
the mose highlevel of setting value is to put it in your own config file.
if you use gdm/kdm/xdm, modify ~/.xprofile, or ~/.dmrc, or ~/.xsession
if you use startx, modify ~/.xinitrc (the files above wont work, and this file wont work if you dont use startx)

I use GDM, and I had already put the entry in .dmrc, but again, no luck... not sure things will change if I use .xprofile and .xsession...

gnome-globalmenu is currently not supporting the vala-svn trunk.
Supporting the trunk is too much. VALA is under heavy refactoring.
So here is a PKGBUILD for vala-0.5.1, if anyone needs it. You will need to remove vala-svn prior to installing this package:
# Maintainer: Adam Eberlin (intellitech) <ae at intellitech dot org>
pkgname=vala
pkgver=0.5.1
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Compiler for the GObject type system"
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
url="http://live.gnome.org/Vala"
license=('LGPL')
depends=('glib2')
makedepends=('flex' 'bison' 'pkgconfig' 'gtk2' 'libxslt')
provides=("vala")
replaces=()
conflicts=('vala-svn')
options=('!libtool')
source=('http://download.gnome.org/sources/vala/0.5/vala-0.5.1.tar.bz2')
md5sums=('0051ae1f2ef967ce21e77889719daad1')
build() {
cd $startdir/src/vala-$pkgver
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-vapigen --enable-gen-project || return 1
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install || return 1
}
Also, please pull the newest PKGBUILD for gnome-globalmenu AUR if you are planning on building it using this vala-0.5.1 pkgbuild.

why the dependence problem still exist?
choose by different machtype will be better. and the new version can build successful with vala 0.5.1
What do you mean by "dependence problem" ? If it's something with the pkgbuild, please let me know, and I'll make the necessary changes. I'm new to building packages, so it's entirely possible I'm doing something wrong.

Ok, I build both gtk2-aqd and the panel applet, but I lost the PKGBUILD for the first.
So if anyone makes a PKGBUILD for that, pls post.
Here is the one for the latter:
pkgname=gnome2-globalmenu-applet pkgver=0.3.0.322 pkgrel=1 pkgdesc="Applet for GNOME's panel to use 'GNOME globalmenu'" arch=('i686' 'x86_64') url="http://code.google.com/p/gnome2-globalmenu/" license=('GPL2') depends=('gnome-panel') options=(!emptydirs) #_svntrunk=http://gnome2-globalmenu.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/gnome2-globalmenu-applet/ #_svnmod=gnome2-globalmenu-applet build() { cd $startdir/src rm -rf $startdir/src/* svn co http://gnome2-globalmenu.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ -r 322 gnome2-globalmenu cd gnome2-globalmenu/gnome2-globalmenu-applet ./autogen.sh ./configure --prefix=/usr make || return 1 echo "make install" make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg/ install || return 1 }
sorry for the noob question, but how do i use this to build the package?
thankyou!

don't bother with that one, use the gnome-globalmenu-svn package in the AUR
from the aur page, download the PKGBUILD file, (read it to check for bad commands) and then in the terminal cd to the directory with the PKGBUILD and run makepkg -s

i have the PKGBUILD from the aur page. when i run "makepkg -s"
i get the error saying :
[mark@markspc gnome-global-menu]$ makepkg -s
==> ERROR: gnome-globalmenu-svn is not available for the '' architecture.
Note that many packages may need a line added to their PKGBUILD
such as arch=('').
[mark@markspc gnome-global-menu]$
( i feel like such a noob )
here is the PKGBUILD file, as you can see it has the arch line set. so im not sure what im meant to do now?
