Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a good terminal application for Gnome. Right now I'm using the default 'Terminal' app, and it looks rather dull and boring. I liked PuTTY on Windows, so if there's anything similar to that I'd be satisfied.

Terminator is my favorite, it's split window feature is more than awesome.

I like
xterm -rv -fa 'Mono' -fs 18
You get a black terminal with white anti-aliased monospace size eighteen font. Easy on the eyes and clean like puTTY.

Terminator looks exactly the same! I guess I'm asking the wrong question? I want it to *look* more like PuTTY, I guess. Can this be done using the regular terminal app?

I'm assuming this is a command? Do I have to put this in a specific config file in my home directory to execute this at startup?

are you looking for a different command line terminal as opposed to gnome-terminal, or are you looking for a telnet, ssh client like putty? If you want, you can just install 'pacman -S putty', i believe it's in extra.

I think if the gnome terminal just had pretty colors and a black background like PuTTY does then I'd be happy with that. The default terminal for gnome does not seem to use the color scheme defined by the system like PuTTY does. If I connect to an SSH server using PuTTY it will use that bash color scheme.

Couldn't you just edit your profile to use a black background and a custom color scheme?

You can always change them.
