Hello there,
I've set up a new Arch installation and got a problem with X.
I start X using X or startx. I can move the mouse, keyboard drivers are successfully loaded as well. Problem is: when I kill X with Ctrl + Alt + Backspace or when I try to enter another tty, my PC freezes. Monitor, USB-devices don't react on input. All I get is a black screen and I have to push the reset button.
I'm not at home so I can't post my xorg.conf. hal is in my MODULES-list. Never had any problems with Xorg under Arch before.
I have read about evdev. However, it is exactly the same behavior with xorg.conf, without xorg.conf and with a xorg.conf including AutoAddDevices "False".
Has anyone a clue? I'm very thankful for hints.
Best Regards,
lama

Are you using catalyst?

Hello,
no I am not using catalyst. I have a nvidia-card, but for testing purposes I'm running vesa atm. Tried out the nvidia-driver and it didn't make a difference (of course I changed the xorg.conf file when I tried that).
I really hope anyone has an idea : /

are you using framebuffer? i had to delete my vga= line from menu.lst in order to fix this.

Hi Rasi,
yes I am indeed using a framebuffer. Worked with Xorg <7 so I didn't even think of it as a source for these problems.
I will try it out at home in the evening. Thank you very much for the suggestion. I will leave a feedback here when I'm done
EDIT: Indeed, now it works! Thank you so much
