Remove Wifi I dont need

Hi,

this is my first Topic. I solved almost all by studying the Forum, but cant now find solution for this easy problem.

I want deaktivate (remove) Wifi, because I dont need it, and I dont want it.

My PC is an Asus EEE PC 701. With the new Kernel, it seems, that the Wifi is supported now within the Kernel. Thats nice, also the atl2 Network is now included, but what, when I dont want the Atheros. I was unplugging the Mini-PCI-Module, but there is also a LED that lights. I disabled in BIOS, but it will restart after each boot.

Is it nessecary to remove this Module from Kernel? Im not experienced in that, please can you help me. I tried !ath5k in rc.conf, but thats not the solution. It seems, that UDEV loads the "LED" haha, there is no hardware for it.

Re: Remove Wifi I dont need

You could try removing Ndiswrapper?

Re: Remove Wifi I dont need

I have not installed any packages supporting wifi, neither madwifi nor ndiswrapper or other.I think Kernel 2.6.28 includes the driver, Maybe I need a Tool, that can uncheck that Driver, and I need compile my own Kernel. any suggestions ? Or is it more easy I think ...

Re: Remove Wifi I dont need

randy@voodoo ~]$ zgrep ATH5K /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_ATH5K=m
# CONFIG_ATH5K_DEBUG is not set
[randy@voodoo ~]$

It seems you are correct, but it's compiled as a module.  You should be able to just prevent the module from loading but you said you've tried that.  When you blacklisted it, did it still show up in lsmod?

EDIT: are you using the eee specific kernel?

Re: Remove Wifi I dont need

No, I use the original Arch Kernel, i prefer this, because its faster up to date, and there is no other people modify things i dont want.

I remember, lsmod gives me the atheros be loaded. Now lsmod shows me no line be indicating the Atheros (since I Hardware-removed the PCI-Module).

wow, i must find out, how to post logfiles or terminal-outputs in windo like you.

Re: Remove Wifi I dont need

you can do it by passing default_state parameter to rfkill module

add this line to /etc/modprobe.conf

options rfkill default_state=0
