Dear All,
since I use both cisco proprietary vpn client and vpnc for vpn, I would like to set up GUIs for them, especially for the linux installations of some non-linux-savy coworkers.
I am trying kvpn for kde4. However, I have several problems. If I try to import a pcf file, it gives me a "file not found" error. I tried with different file names and placing the file in different directories. I always get the error.
If I enter the connection data manually. Everything is ok. However, when I try to connect, the red square in the corner turns to yellow (it is trying to connect) and then the system crashes with these errors.
Unable to start collectToolInfo process vpnclient
Unable to start collectToolInfo process vpnclient
Unable to start collectToolInfo process cisco_cert_mgr
Unable to start collectToolInfo process cisco_cert_mgr
Unable to start collectToolInfo process cisco_cert_mgr
Unable to start collectToolInfo process vpnclient

sock_file=/root/.kde4/socket-chakra/kdeinit4__0
Warning: connect() failed: : Connection refused
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.
I am running this as root, but the same happens if I run this with sudo.
I googled but no one seems to have this specific problem. The solution for the file not found error was for many people an update, but I am using the version from svn
I am open also to try other GUIs. For vpnc I tried the networkmanager-plasmoid-svn from aur, after setting up networkmanager. However, it seems to work for openvpn, but for vpnc when I enter the data they are not saved. If I reopen the same vpn connection in the list the data entries are empty.
I also tried an ancient GUI for the cisco vpn client. (gvpndialer). This works on my firend's ubuntu, but not on my arch. When it tries to connect, on my friend's machine a pop up asking the username comes up, but on mine it just hangs trying to log in and then prints
* (gvpndialer:3912): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer
on the console. (I compiled it from source)
Finally I found another gui for the cisco vpn (cvpncg). But it is really basic and just fires up a terminal inside wich the cli vpn client is executed (people still have to insert data in a terminal)
Has anyone of you found a nice gui for these vpn clients?
Thanks for your help

Dear All,
it seems that the problem lies partially in the kvpnc program. It seems that the problem in the official cisco vpn client. If I setup a "fake" vpnc profile, it works. However, if the profile is a vpnclient one, it crashes.
If I type on the console:
I get:
vpnclient
bash: /usr/bin/vpnclient: No such file or directory
I installed the cisco-vpnclient from aur.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

I use kvpnc to connect to my company's pptp networks. I found that the latest version in the repos crashes on me if I so much as sneeze at it. The previous version (0.9.1-1) still requires KDE3, but it works and is stable. So you could try and find a mirror and get the older version. If you cannot find it, I could send it to you (I still have the package)
EDIT: it requires KDE3 libs of course, but you can use it under KDE4
