lives & video editing

Hi all,
i'm trying to get a good video editing program working. I've installed cinelerra, but I'm not able to make it work, lives...I read  is simple and good. I've installed it, installed all programs that it needs when makes checks...xmms as well...(i don't think it's needed).

It seems to work..but i can't ear any sound! How can i check what is the problem? actually the jack is the playback!

I want to notice also that while lives is executing...vlc, xmms etc are not working at all, launching vlc from console I can read the following error messages:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[00000473] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1008:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[00000473] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the conversion
[00000473] main audio output error: couldn't create audio output pipeline

No warning/error messages I get on lives.

What can I do?

You need git. This should be a make depends.

Re: lives & video editing

I guess maybe I should include that as a dependency...

EDIT: Fixed!

Re: lives & video editing

I'm "trying" to try kdenlives...but is completely unstable: if you add more than one effect...it crashes!

Nothing to do...maybe I'll try using windows application...No choice!!! sad

However I'll try to help devs sending them crash reports...it's a good applications...and I feel to do the best I can!

Thks!

In case you didn't know kdenlive is quite a young app still, works quite well for me tho and its shaping up pretty fast...
Give it a month or so ^^ Imho its still the only promising linux video editor there is roll

Re: lives & video editing

does anyone know how to create text with some effects (like star wars titles)? kdenlive doesn't do anything about...maybe only cinelerra...but i'm not able to make it working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: lives & video editing

Video editing is sorely lacking in linux! kino never works for me, always crashes right away. cinelarra is a huge monster of a program. I tried open movie editor once, I think I had some problem with sound, otherwise it seemed okay, but it was a long time ago. maybe it's better by now: http://www.openmovieeditor.org/
