A known bug in powerdevil causes it not to power down the screen (should be fixed and backported to KDE 4.2: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178642)
However, until recently screen dimming used to work properly. Since the upgrade to kdebase-workspace 4.2.0-6, neither DPMS not dimming works.
Can anyone confirm? Does anybody know how to verify if the powerdevil backports have been incorporated?

Sorry, I take that back. I had the setting 'If the system is idle for 1 minute, do nothing'. Setting that to 99 minutes re-enabled dimming. Still no DPMS though....
