Can't browse partitions using Gnome's "Places" menu

hal, dbus, gnome-volume-manager are all working fine and I can browse the hard drive partitions using nautilus with no problems.
The problem is that when I choose a partition from the Places menu in gnome's applet, I get the search dialog box instead of nautilus browsing the partition. Any ideas?
