Computer freezes ramdomly (X segfaulting?)

Since a couple of weeks ago, my computer freezes randomly. X just freezes (occasionally the mouse still reacts, but rarely) and I can not do anything else but to power down and boot again.

Looking into /var/log/Xorg.0.log I find the following

[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

Googling for this error message, I do not seem to find any helpful hints, as it seems it is a general error message (see e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/259808).

I have an intel video card (X4500). From what I have read, the intel drivers are undergoing a major revision/rewrite, starting with the 2.6.28 kernel, which activates something or another (I'm not too familiar with the linux graphic infrastructure). Could it be that I'm having an issue with this?

On my /var/pacman/cache I still have the 2.6.27 kernel and there is also this thread (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=61650) for going the other way and upgrading to the newest drivers. However I would rather keep big packages like X in the standard repository version and optimal graphic performance is not such a big issue for me. Nice to have, but not a requirement.

Someone has any hints or advice?

Re: Computer freezes ramdomly (X segfaulting?)

Well, I downgraded to kernel 2.6.27 and the computer seems to run more stable now. It's been only a test, but yesterday I could work for several hours without any freezing.
