Hi! Basically, I have an internal sata hard drive that I want to put in an external mount and use as an external drive.
Anyone know if and which sata cards are recognized by linux?
I don't care about RAID, just want to plug in an internal drive, externally, and
be able to access it at speeds faster than usb or firewire.
I'm using kernel 2.6.28.

So, as far as I understand you want eSATA? And you don't have eSATA? Desktop/Laptop? A bit more information is always good.
Anyways, in case you have a Laptop: Most Cardbus, ExpressCard eSATA cards are supported as long as they aren't anything fancy. In most cases they use a Silicon Image controller which has been supported by the kernel for a long time.
If you have a desktop: Why bother buying a card? Just get a internal sata to eSATA slot adapter - much cheaper. It'll take up a slot in the back of your PC but no extra OS resources.

Are you Desktop? Do you have pci-e?
A pci-e to sata card will give two independent esata ports.

..or just grab e esata bracket. connect it to your internal sata port and thats it.
you wll lose one internal port, but current mainboards have more then enough of those.
