Re: Hal/policykit status?

How did the new hal make it to core/extra if it does not work?

Re: Hal/policykit status?

Yeah really.  It only spent 4 months in testing...

Re: Hal/policykit status?

Works fine here also, with the ck-launch-session thing.

Do you actually have put that in a configuration file if you are using GDM or KDM?

Re: Hal/policykit status?

I run Openbox via startx

I have added exec ck-launch-session openbox-session in my .xinitrc

I have also edited my PolicyKit.conf as the wiki tells me http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL … utomounter

I still can not get Thunar to mount any external devices.

Re: Hal/policykit status?

Try it without these lines in PolicyKit.conf and add "session optional pam_ck_connector.so" to /etc/pam.d/login. With these two things it works here with LXDE with Pcmanfm, started with startx. If I add the lines in PolicyKit.conf, which are posted in the wiki, it doesn't work anymore. I can mount, I can reboot, shut down, simply everything works with just these two points.

Good luck!

Re: Hal/policykit status?

What I didn't like about this new hal was the consolekit dependency, but it seems some users need it for fast user switching in gdm, so nevermind.

You're right, but there's more to it than that. ConsoleKit and PolicyKit part of the freedesktop.org specification now. They're here to stay in some form or another.

Please, have a look here and tell me what do you think about this solution: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65070

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Re: Hal/policykit status?

Thank you Army I've been stuck editing Policykit.conf for ages trying to get it to work and that fixed it for me perfectly!

I had to add this hack to policykit to get my CD/DVD and external USB devices (IE. camera and phone) to work.
