I'm a classroom teacher who is experimenting with some old iMacs which run on the PPC. I've been using Xubuntu, but even with the updates, there have been some strange quirks. I have three computers running on Yellow Dog, which work great, but I want to stick with something that will be free. A friend of mine suggested Archlinux.
I'm really new to all of this, so I was wondering what I would need to do to switch a computer from Xubuntu to Archlinux. Any thoughts?

Well, Arch Linux does not support PPC out of the box as it is optimized for i686. There is a PPC branch which can be found here: http://www.archlinuxppc.org/

Thanks. I looked around at it and it sounds like I'll be needing to learn Linux and customize it as I go. Maybe this will turn out to be a great learning experience. All I really need is something that runs quickly, smoothly and is user-friendly for students.
