I have an issue with my Packard Bell laptop.
The microphone does not work.
I have tried several distributions and no luck so far.
I have installed Ubuntu, fedora, PCLinux, and now Arch.
In all of them is the same problem, the mic doesnt work.
I got sound,
The video works great,
My wireless card work out of the box,
Everything is fine with Arch, i just miss the mic.
I want to use skype in Arch.
This is the only reason for keeping my Windows xp partition.
Any idea for the correction of this problem??
I have re-installed several times ALSA and that does not work.
Please, help!!!!

Not the same make of computer and not really the same problem at all.... but on my laptop I couldn't get the mic to work either. When I eventually got some sound picked up it was so low that it was unusable.
So, I got rid of alsa and installed oss instead and it works heaps better. Maybe you could give that a try? For Skype to work though, you would need to install the skype-oss package.

I could try that,
My only issue is that ALSA is reproducing sound.
Actually, now im listening to Garbage with rhythmbox without any problem.
I feel that it has to do with the configuration,
but I have searched so many forums and all the solutions do not apply to my comp.
For example, in one forum i read that you can select the input for the mic. From mic1 to mic2.
In my conf file I dont find that option and on the GUI I dont get those options.
Weird stuff this is!!!
