What is the difference between openbox and openbox-session?

What is the exact difference between the two?

I switched to running openbox-session instead of openbox to get the new networkmanager 0.7 working in Openbox again, and while it worked, suddenly gnome-appearance-properties took over gtk theme and wallpaper settings. Now while the gtk side of it isn't a problem, I don't want it mananging my wallpapers, I have a nice script using feh to do that.

Is there a way to control what openbox-session does? What exactly does it do differently? Can networkmanager be made to run without the session?

openbox-session runs ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
