I just ran into the same issue today! Arch64, openoffice-base. No errors if run from the command line. Just freezes hard (no CPU usage).

[edit]For a quick fix, in openoffice, select tools -> options -> general -> Use OpenOffice.org dialogs. This won't have your pretty window manager open/save dialogs, but will use the openoffice default dialog. Apparently this is a known bug.

Thanks firecat53, was a silly thing and solves a big problem for me today.
Cheers.

The stable pkg includes 2 patches that solved a high load issue in the gtk dialog (issue #11710 in our tracker). Maybe your problem is something similar. What theme do you use? Plain Gnome metacity window manager? Please check OOo issuezilla for your issue. If it's not yet there please open a report at OOo.

Same issue here on x86_64 with openoffice-base. The quick fix provided by firecat53 works, thanks!

+1
I've found that after changing dialog box to OO's style and back the problem disappeared...

I have libx11 1.1.99.2-2 as of yesterday morning. I thought (hmmm...) that I had this problem last night after the update was installed, and I think I restarted after that update. So anyway, after going back and unselecting the 'Use Openoffice.org dialogs' it works fine now with the WM dialog.
