hi,
it's just a suggestion but i think it would be useful to add a CONSOLEFONT variable in rc.conf to help foreign people (i mean not US or RU to configure the support of special characters like the Euro symbol (for eg.). I don't think it would be very difficult to add.
Thanx.

and what about adding a file like "/etc/environment" to put all the environment variables in it, like in debian systems ?

like this ?
in mine /etc/profile
export LESSCHARSET="latin9"
-----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----
Version: 3.1
GU/ d- s: a- C L U P+ L+++ E--- W+
N 0+ K- W-- !O !M V-- PS+ PE- V++ PGP T 5 Z+ R* TV+ B+
DI-- D- G-- e-- h! r++ z+ z*

not exactly,
export LESSCHARSET="latin9" doesn't resolv the problem for the Euro (€) symbol in console mode.
But if you do : setfont lat9w-16
(look at your /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts directory...)
...it works. So i think that adding a CONSOLEFONT="whatyouwant" in /etc/rc.conf that would be read by the /etc/rc.sysinit , could be a solution.
I know that i can put a setfont command in my /etc/rc.local but we put a lot of things in it...
