Hi,
after a long time using arch without any problem it was time to do a fresh install (my own fault).
I used the latest snapshot, did a full upgrade und installed a few packages (xorg, opera, pidgin, gqview so far). Same procedure as always. Everthing seems to work as expected exept one thing: no images are displayed. In gqview i only see little red crosses, the icons in pidgin are crosses as well. In opera everything ist fine. But as soon as i download a picture and try to view it in gqview: red cross. I tried jpg and png so far.
I'm not even sure where to start looking for the cause.
Has anyone an idea what the problem could be?

since the problem persists, even after a new install, one last try with this thread...

Start gqview from a terminal, try to open an image, and see what the output is.

i already tried that (sorry, i should have mentioned that). there is no output at all:
[orie@coruum tmp]$ ls -al
total 32
drwxr-xr-x 2 orie users 4096 2009-02-10 20:49 .
drwx------ 13 orie users 4096 2009-02-10 20:48 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 orie users 20541 2009-02-10 20:49 image.jpg
[orie@coruum tmp]$ file image.jpg
image.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01
[orie@coruum tmp]$ gqview
[orie@coruum tmp]$
gqview recognizes filesize and ownership correctly but displays "? x?" pixels.
something i just recognized: the icon of pidgin in fluxbox's toolbar is not displayed (cross) but opera's icon is.

I`m newbie with archlinux and I was also confused with icons problem. Solution is install shared-mime-info package from repository.
# pacman -S shared-mime-info
Offline
