Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Let me add my thanks, too.  It's really been great, and I'm looking forward to picking this up again when you're ready to make 4.3 available.
Guess I'll give 4.2 a try, but I'll be back!

You might have ignored an notification. It only sends one, then ignores new messages if you don't visit the forum.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Here's a first cut at some fresh packages using the new kde/svn and kde/stable layout. kde/stable for x86_64 is up as I type this but unfortuntely kwin is crashing for me but most apps seems to at least run under the qwm window manager. Hopefully there will be a kde/svn (not kde-svn) in a dozen hours after this post.

# for i686 users
#[kde-stable]
#Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/stable/i686
[kde-svn]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/svn/i686
[kde-extra]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/extra/i686

# for x86_64 users
#[kde-stable]
#Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/stable/x86_64
[kde-svn]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/svn/x86_64
[kde-extra]
Server = http://pkg.eth-os.org/kde/extra/x86_64

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Has anyone been able to run the networkmanager plasmoid .. it just crashes plasma on me sad
Any ideas on how to track the problem even? without using any debug build .. like running a plasmoid from commandline?

Also the network settings at SystemSettings says "cannot parse XML()"  and doesn't work afterwards  -- This one's on general tab
Why is there another network setting on Advance tab? This one also basically doesn't work .. the static ip section .. can't add/edit anything there.
Is this the status of things or I have some problem? I synced everything (include kde-svn) yesterday.

Lastly I don't find any docs on networkmanager 0.7 in arch or anywhere. The static configuration from my rc.conf no longer works, it goes to DHCP always sad

I know the last one maybe for asking in general forum/thread .. but decided to try here first. Cause I think this one may be solved by some gui for networkmanger but whats the way you guys are doing on kde-svn ?

Thanks in advance for any help or any pointer to right direction smile

The network manager plasmoid is under heavy development, and rarely works for anyone ;-)
I doubt that, besides joining development, there is anything you can do at this point to get it working properly.

The Networksettings module - I *think* nobody has been working on that for a while. I'd say bitrot got the best of it.

Is networkmanager already in stable?

Sorry I couldn't help you better...

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

No worry, i just wanted to be sure if the plasmoid is still unstable .. from some comment earlier in the thread it seemed people were using it.

Yes the networkmanger 0.7 has been moved from testing.

Though I'm not sure considering all other things thats happening .. I would have assumed network management would have been given a higher priority than all other things thats happening in KDE4. Seems at this moment (even at 4.2) there's no GUI for any kind of network management sad
Well they are doing it for free and maybe the devels are busy with more critical projects, just the priority of some of the things looks a bit wired.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

i had a problem with kde4.3svn and i reinstalled it. but now KDM crashes due to KDMGREET (from kde.log "KCrash: Application 'kdmgreet' crashing..." )

there is a way to reinstall only kdmgreet or eventually, the kdm package?

smile

do you think that deleting all kdm config files and use a pacman -Syuf should solve the problem? O.o

Are there any (distinct) differences between KDE 4.3svn and 4.2 right now ?

Qt 4.5 (performance) mostly, I'd say. Oh, and 4.3svn has another big advantage for kde-SVN lovers like us - it is less stable cool

But seriously, besides Qt 4.5 I haven't had a close look at features. There are some new kwin effects, some kopete and KDE PIM stuff, a 'sonic screwdriver' in Killbots (my favorite game, but I haven't figured out the rules concerning that thing).

Re-installed today, after using Mint Linux in the intervening time [ not too bad ], and all is OK again.

Complete re-install of Arch - I was [temporarily] using Mint Linux whilst waiting
for a fix for the problem.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

I'm not sure when kde-svn started using qt-copy 4.5rc1 but it would be from about a week ago and I suspect there may be some (particullarly plasma) fixups needed. My desktop (x86_64) freezes too, total lockup and I have to ssh in from another machine to reboot. Don't forget there is the eth-os-gui/qwm window manager if kwin or plasma lock up, just add "exec qwm" to ~/.xinitrc and use startx.

Anyone know where the qt-copy is that is meant to be used with KDE 4.2?
