[request] XPde PKGBUILD Please!

Its the only way I can uninstall windows xp without teaching linux to everybody who uses my PC.

Can somebody make a pkgbuild for it ?

1) It's not a very good DE
2) Both gnome and KDE can be made to look quite similar to XP (As can openbox or any other floating WM)
3) It's been five years since the last update.

There is a pkgbuild in this thread from 04 and since the project has been dead since then, its the current version
it might still work, who knows.

1. Don't care.
As long as it helps me keep Window$ XP off my rig and frees up those partitions and allows me to store MORE HD Music Videos instead, I am happy.

2. I have Xfce 4.4 and I DONT want to make it ugly like Windows XP, while Gnome and KDE are too heavy for my system.

3. Then I can assume it to be complete right ?

I can understand your first two points, but I'm pretty sure you're joking with the third. It's abandonware, and the only way that it is "complete" is in the sense that it is over and done with. XPde is simply a panel layout & menu that is similar to what windows uses. If you look at their screenshots, the actual appearance is not similar at all. You're more likely to get a similar layout using XFCE -- Why not create a new account for them? Even if they didn't want it to look like windows, that's what I'd do.

I would strongly advice against using old software that hasn't been maintained in years. Why don't you take LXDE for a spin instead?

I did see the screenshots, and, from personal opinion, I feel it looks quite close to the original thing. But as far as XFCE is concerned, I think the way it behaves in front of the XP User is quite different from what he would normally expect.

I need shortcuts to all partitions on the desktop, and I don't know how to do that in Xfce.
I also need a start button clone for Xfce.
And I need to change the Xfce menu to make it bigger, if not XP-ish.

I doubt I can do all the above.

I did try LXDE. I was actually impressed by it and I think it makes a good DE, but then its a lot buggier than I would like it to be. I had file transfer speed of 1MBPS when using LXDE compared to normally much much higher speeds on Xfce. LXTerminal is again buggy, with text sometimes disappearing.

I removed LXDE and now I only retain PCManFM (which I already like more than Tunar), LXTask (which is better than Xfce Task Manager) and GPicView (the lightest image viewer I have seen).

What DE you're running shouldn't affect your file transfer speeds at all, afaik. Is this just anecdotal, or did you actually do some testing with controlled variables?

Mirage is a pretty lightweight image viewer as well, although it requires PyGTK. It's got a lot of features for its size, though, if you want something a little less basic.
