This is a "thank you" post. well, sort of. its an Arch glorification... ![]()
i just crashed my hd... again... no bad words - nothing todo with Arch, only me, myself and i, and alot of appetite for knowledge. however - this time when i reinstalled Arch i was no longer a complete n00b as the previous (and 1st) time of my Arch install - with no knowledge of what bash is, how to make my own kernel, and what i thought at the time to be my biggest nightmare - i didn't know my hardware specific modules (i didn't know hwd at that time
). this time i was already familiar with the configuration, with the boot process, customization, and whatever a starting Archer should.
well, to make a long story short - the install took me 1/2 hour, then a quick update, then installing my fav x stuff, some customization - and viola - i have my Arch back...damn - that was fast!
i still consider myself as a n00b, but not a total lost... all my linux knowledge right now is all thanks to Arch. nothing else. Therefor i really want to send a big thank you to Judd personally, and all the developers for making this excellent distro. i hope within time i will get back on the horse and feel comfortable enough to drop 20 years of bad coding practice (m$...) and contribute something back... you see Judd, as I'm sure u already know, every action as a reaction, and i truly believe your action has started a reaction, which only time will tell its true impact.
all the best,
z4ziggy
ps.
a great part of my "education" is also thanks to this great forum. no doubt this "thank you" note is also for those ppl behind the nicks ![]()

I def. agree - a majority of my linux knowledge I have gained while using arch (it may or may not be dependant on arch, on a case-by-case basis).
So thanks!

Phrakture should be reprimanded for going off topic in the very first reply to this thread.
I hereby grant this thread the status of "official phrakture-bashing thread"

Yeah, that phrakture is no good. Take a look at his avatar. Come on, a cartoon character? Grow up buddy!
Anyways, Arch is great. I have learned more from this distro in a few weeks than I have from using Red Hat for more than a year.
To quote an infamous forum poster: i am forever greatful that i found arch !

I've been using linux since 95, with one of the early Slackware releases. While I've mostly been comfortable with Slack and BSD, there are aspects of other distros that I've always enjoyed.
I was very hesitant to try out Arch recently, as it's a relatively small distro, and I was concerned about support and quality packages. It's been a few days since I've been using Arch for my daily OS and I'm amazed. I can easily (and _quickly_) install only the packages that I want, and enjoy a very fast desktop environment. Never has a distro worked so well for me.
I hope that my good fortune continues, and that I can give back to the community
