Arch 2009.02 fails to install in VMWare

Hi,

Arch 2009.02 fails to install in VMWare. It doesn't apply the keyboard mappings I choose with 'km' and I cannot see my written partion information. The partioning fails by using the auto-setup with the arch installer wizzard and by using manual partioning as well. I tells me that fdisk wrote the tables to disk but it doesn't.

Did anyone experience this already as well and how to solve that?

which image did you download exactly?  did you verify the checksums?

Hi,

it was "archlinux-2009.02-core-x86_64.iso" and I can verify that the checksum is "b9b22e7695a79ad0623e3081fc137a29"

that's odd then.. and 2 seemingly unrelated problems.
you don't get any output/errors ?
can you check tty7 ? (ctrl alt f7)
see anything in dmesg, /var/log/messages? what if you try to do some stuff manually ( eg fdisk and write to disk), loadkeys etc?

Re: Arch 2009.02 fails to install in VMWare

Hi,

the harddisk auto-prepare wizzard claims after failing operation that the error should be send to tty7, but the screen is fully black sad
The error occurs after choosing the filesystem type. in the messages.log there nothing interesting to see....only eN_US.UTF-8 is used while booting.

But interesting: When I use fdisk on tty2 it looks good. The partitions are really written und can be seen in the /arch/setup GUI afterwards.
But when mkswap is running it says again there's an error while creating mkswap on /dev/sda2

Does this maybe help a little bit?

Re: Arch 2009.02 fails to install in VMWare

Hello,

I just repeated the installation on my physical computer with physical harddrives. Same issue here with the 2009.02 as 64Bit.... 'km' does not set up the keyboard layout properly and the harddisk cannot be set up.....at least cfdisk works here and writes the tables (I can see them in fdisk in parallel), but when I try to mount the directrories and set up the file systems the installer does not see any of the partitions. Strange ..... on tty7 or in the logs nothing is displayed.
