firefox wont decompress (tar xjv)

I downloaded the latest firefox binaries from mozilla. then, when I tried to decompress them using tar -xjv it at first appeared to be taking a long time, but after waiting a few minutes realized something was wrong. Any ideas? I'm running 64 bit linux. Maybe I made a simple mistake somewhere along the line?

1) Why are you downloading them? We have a perfectly good package manager.
2) I'm pretty sure you need the "f" operator as well, which tells tar that you want to operate on a file, not stdin.

Re: firefox wont decompress (tar xjv)

If you want a happy Linux distro that will last for a good long time, nevar use anything not from a package for your distro, IMO smile Arch offers firefox, firefox-branded, and firebrand (to quickly brand Firefox), let alone all the SCM versions, beta versions, and optimized versions. And if there's not something you want, it's easy to make (or request) a PKGBUILD.

Re: firefox wont decompress (tar xjv)

It's not BS smile If you don't like it, install firefox-branded, or (takes 5 seconds to install and use) firebrand.
Firefox branding info:

It's been discussed on other threads.
