ATI Catalyst problems ... flickering, black, dotted, vertical lines

I am having the exact same problem I was having in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex with the proprietary ATI drivers. They worked absolutely fine for me before but now whenever I start a game (such as a fullscreen game in WINE), I get these flickering, black, dotted vertical lines that are horizontally placed across the screen and that take up about 1/3 of the screen height. They also scroll down the screen and loop back again to the top, much like an old tv without a very clear signal. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I'm using kernel 2.6.28, wine 1.1.15, the latest ati catalyst package from pacman and my card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X600.

Have you tried enabling and disabling all those extra 'Option's?

Does the xf86-video-radeon driver work OK (may or may not be a suitable replacement depending on what you need, but does it work?)?

You say it worked before. What broke it? If it was an update, what was updated? pacman's log may help here. Also, see if you can find specs for your monitor (VertRefresh, HorizSync, etc.) to replace the default xorg.conf values.
Post the full xorg.conf too, please.

You again! You're really quick with answering!

The last I had it working was with Ubuntu's Hardy Heron. When I moved to Intrepid Ibex, I never got it to work. (It could be a problem with a newer ATI driver?) The open source ATI driver worked fine, just won't run some games (which is what I'm shooting for.)

As for my monitor specs, I'll have to look that up. It's a Chinese laptop and my computer bag with all my documentation was stolen. Hopefully I'll be able to find the information online.

I disabled all the options in xorg.conf and still the same problem. Anyway, here is my entire xorg.conf:

EDIT: I just noticed that it appears to be a problem with the resolution 800x600. It could be a problem adjusting the screen from widescreen to 4:3. Thus the black lines to adjust for the extra space. Halflife in WINE at 1280x800 works fine. World of Goo at 800x600 has lines. Any ideas on how to solve that?

Oops, yeah, ati. Okay, so it is (likely) fglrx.

The only things I can think of are try an older version of fglrx (it sucks and everyone knows it, but at least the open source drivers are backed by AMD and being developed fast now): http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade_packages (if you're on 64-bit, Catalyst 9.1 will come eventually, slight chance it will fix your problem - i686 already has 9.1)
and seperately try using hwd -xa, aticonfig, and Xorg -configure to create xorg.confs (tune afterwards).

You get this problem not just in Wine, right?

Right, it's not just in Wine. I get it for the game Teeworlds as well but I can confirm there that the error is with 800x600 (possibly the 4:3 ratio). If I switch TeeWorlds to 1280x800, there are no lines.

I'm also having a wicked time getting WOW to work but I'm not sure THAT is my gfx card hehe.
