OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Just did an update this morning and got a new openjdk package - I thought no ill of it 'cos OOo supposedly supports openjdk on x86_64.

Well, it appears it doesn't as I keep on getting an error message when I open a particular document. I then have to kill soffice to get out of the loop of error messages, restart OOo, look in tools, options, etc. to find java for OOo. But none are listed.

I haven rebooted yet 'cos the box is busy until tomorrow morning at least - could that be the solution, a simple reboot?

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Update:

I rebooted and all sorts of rather unpleasant things are happening, most of which can be rectified with my limited knowledge. However, the following is getting me down:

error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/openjdk6-1.4-2/depends: No such file or directory

What happened there? I did a system upgrade and my openjdk got done as well. This goes some way to explain why OOo is on strike but I am not sure how to rectify it.

Any hints out there?

New morning and no new messages on pacman -Syu !?

The problem still persists, however.

@ na12

Have you made any inroads?

Arch64 here and openjdk of same version. When you say "particular document" does it mean that most documents work without errors?

I just ask because I haven't been able to reproduce it.

Yes, a particular .doc in my case - architects, hell bent on making things as complicated as possible. I can open simple files no problem.

opening files usually doesn't have anything related to Java. open OOo from command lline and watch for useful output. I doubt we can do something here.

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Well, after checking this http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63349 I did a pacman -Syy to no effect and ended up installing jre proper sad

pacman -S jre

Now at least I have a working system again. na12, this should do it for you as well. Tell OOo it has a new java environment available in /opt/java and things should work fine.

Let me know how you get on so I can mark this thread at least as semi-solved...

I can't do that

bash-3.2# pacman -S jre

looking for inter-conflicts...

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Hm, so your problem is different to mine because I wasn't even asked to remove openjdk6!

Start OOf from the command line as AndyRTR suggested and post any useful output.

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

When I start from the command line I get

[Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library:
file:///opt/java/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so.

and there is no libjvm.so anywhere

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

that's from Sun jre not from OpenJDK! Change your java in OOo option centre.

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

please recheck with OpenJDK6 1.4-1 pkg. It should be in /var/cache/pacman/pkg - there were some small changes that might cause this. The file worked in the past with openjdk?

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

would you mind making the file plublic so somebody can confirm? btw: can you open the Java based wizards e.g letter or the help section? both should work with only when java is ok. Can you run vuze or any other java software? is it i686 orx86_64?

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

sounds the issue is caused by the documents not by the java package.

Re: OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Since I have the same set up I've tried to open all kinds of documents to see if I encounter anything similar, simple doc, pretty complicated doc, odt and others, but I don't see anything odd. The only errors I get is a couple of simple GTK ones but nothing serious or java related.

@ Kimtjik

I could send you a document. Send me an email via arch with a "normal" email address so I can attach something if you feel like it.
