Re: So do you use pacman or something else like pacman-color/yaourt/tupac

I browse a lot of packages in the AUR so I'm always using yaourt. I barely ever use pacman alone.

Re: So do you use pacman or something else like pacman-color/yaourt/tupac

Only pacman. Mostly out of old habits, I've been using Arch since before yaourt and the like were available and thus I have a bunch of directory from all the packages I need with all the usual pkgbuilds/install/patches etc needed to compile and it's then easier to just cd to the package I want and makepkg.

Re: So do you use pacman or something else like pacman-color/yaourt/tupac

yaourt for everything, except for searching, where I use tupac (aliased "tupac -Ss" with "yaourtss" for a faster use).

Btw, I think the fact that so many people just don't use the "original" pacman but some other tools instead, means only that our default package manager needs some upgrades\improvements (maybe by simply merging-in some of the external tools). For a new user, in fact, I think that having so many different package manager-related-tools cause only a lot of confusion (think only about yaourt, powerpill, tupac, pacman-color, shaman, alunn, pacbuilder, and I'm sure there are many more to add on the list...)

What do you think?

Yaourt... and let's see... Yaourt?

I dunno... But why explicitly use pacman when you have yaourt? Annoyed by typing Yaourt?(i must admit i like the name "pacman allot more)
Ah well i've used pacman a couple of times when aur drowned me in a search or two, but that's it tongue

Re: So do you use pacman or something else like pacman-color/yaourt/tupac

Hm well in my opinion yaourt is bloat and ugly - and it feels like every search takes hours (because of the aur output). I wanted a seperate program for my aur needs. Currently i use pacman + aurpac and for me it performs good.
Oh i already told you about aurpac on the last page...i forgot that.

I use pacman, powerpill, and yaourt.  I use yaourt mainly for when I need something from the AUR, and powerpill mainly for when I know that I need to download a lot of and/or large files; powerpill is especially nice for clean installs when you don't have a package cache with you, or upgrading a system that hasn't been used for a month or two.
