To get my laptop's touchpad scrollbar to work would HAL enable that?

I looked at the wiki and saw where it said to add an option for Vert something to enable the scrollbar on my touchpad, which didn't work.  Do I need HAL for that or what?

If you're using xorg hotplugging, you need hal and a suitable .fdi file. If you've disabled hotplugging, you need a suitable input device section in your xorg.conf. Details in the wiki.
