Hi all,
I am having trouble getting the proprietary NVIDIA drivers working. I installed the nvidia package group (for the 180 drivers) and then ran their xorg.conf file generator, when loading I get the following output:
X.Org X Server 1.5.3
Release Date: 5 November 2008
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.27-ARCH x86_64
Current Operating System: Linux Sleet 2.6.28-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 13 11:03:55 CET 2009 x86_64
Build Date: 17 December 2008 10:46:49PM

It would appear that it is installed properly, however for whatever reason modprobe cannot find the module that is there in the proper directory?
Here is the xorg.conf file if it helps, even though it is mostly the default:

Hi,
you are running an old kernel (2.6.27). Update kernel26 to the latest 2.6.28 and it will work. Modules for your current kernel are in /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH which is old and all drivers are now built to expect kernel modules directory being /lib/modules/2.6.28-ARCH.

If he has installed it and it shows up in /lib/modules/2.6.28-ARCH - then he _is_ running a 2.6.28-kernel!
Do a 'grep nvidia /lib/modules/2.6.28-ARCH/modules.dep' - your install just _may_ have failed at the depmod stage (I believe that is the last thing the installer does)
<edit>
Hmmm - the 'build system' is 2.6.27 and the current one is 2.6.28
Maybe you have not updated kernel headers?
</edit>

I suggest removing the arch package and trying a manual install of the driver from the nvidia website. This would rule out a problem with the arch package. I've never had the problem you are experiencing, but my card is a 9600, not a newer 260's.
On 64-bit, install manually with the following command:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180....pkg2.run --ui=none

oops sorry, I looked on wrong line in xorg's output :-)

I reinstalled arch with the latest install CD and the issue did not happen again. I did choose a different mirror so maybe that is why...
