[Solved] Can't open applications after running archassistant

I have a bug that has popped up recently I don't know how to look for the problem.  Whenever I run archassistant to connect to a wireless network, I am no longer able to open any other applications in KDE 4.2.  I am stopped with the error (from Xorg.log):

AUDIT .....date&time... 2533 X: client 23 rejected from local host ( uid=1000 gid=1000 pid=2927 )

at command line the application cannot start with error:

app: cannot connect to X server :0.0
<unkonwn program name>(2926)/: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!

Everything else seems to work fine including programs that were alread open.  I just cannot create new windows.  There is also no problem if i manually connect to the wireless network.  When I reboot, all is fine untill I tell archassistant to connect.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

what is the output of "dmesg" ??

how are you running archassistant, with "sudo" ?

Re: [Solved] Can't open applications after running archassistant

Thanks for the quick reply.

Arch runs at startup with the sudo command.  I wrote a little script in the .kde/Autostart folder.  Everything is fine with archassistant running until I tell it to connect.  Makes me wonder if something is wrong with the network daemon, if that is what it is using.

There is no dmesg output that any error has occured, even when it fails to open a window.  I would copy and paste it for you, but that ability seems to be lost as well.

Re: [Solved] Can't open applications after running archassistant

You should have a file called .Xauthority in your home directory. If that file gets screwed up it will cause this symptom. It should be owned by you and be readable and writable by you. Check if archassistant (or something in the process of running it) is deleting or messing up permissions on it.

Also, the keys in that file normally have the hostname in them, so if what you do changes the hostname, this problem will happen.

Thanks ataraxia,  it was a problem with the hostname.  Apparently the profile I had setup had my old hostname in its settings. When netcfg ran it switched the new to the old stopping everything else.
