I can't set Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN to work

I have an Acer Extensa 5630G and i'm trying to set the wireless to work according to ATI wiki . I installed iwlwifi-5000-ucode , and I added iwl5000 to rc.conf > modules line and it doesn't load the module . I also tried iwlagn and nothing. When I hwdetect --show-net it shows tg3 which is my wired connection and for iwconfig it shows lo and eth0 with no wireless extensions. Any ideas how to do this?

I'm having the same problem actually. The point is that i have a button to switch on the wifi wich is a super cool high tech touch sensible thing, but unfortunately seems to be unresponsive with linux, so if i can't switch on the adapter i'm afraid it'll be hard to recognize and use the wifi....
Plus

The iwlwifi driver has been merged into mainline kernel since 2.6.24. If you are using kernels after this release, please use the intree (drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi) driver directly. After 2.6.26 the intree driver iwlagn also supports the new 5100BG, 5100ABG, 5100AGN, 5300AGN and 5350AGN series hardwares.

Boot into your BIOS and look for an option to activate the wlan on startup. Perhaps you're lucky and your notebook offers this option.
