Problem with 2009.02(Solved with kdm re-install in daemons)

Successfully downloaded USB.img, dd'ed to a stick and was successful in installing the base packages and booted into a root prompt.

Loaded pacman -S pacman, kde,xorg,gparted,opera,firefox,xf86-video-intel,hwd, and entered kdm in daemons.

Was successful in obtaining login window in kde but it refused root login.

Entered into terminal mode and ..as root... modified the file kdmrc in /usr/share/config/kdm directory to ...allow root login=true.

Rebooted and received the correct root log-in display which has the title...WELCOME TO N6RE.... it has ROOT as username and the password was entered.  The display went blank and then returned with the same log-in window, no log-in to the desktop was possible.

Returning to terminal vc1, root log-in was performed correctly but does not result in log-in to kde desktop.

The procedure used to enable root log-in was employed in x86-64 boots in ext3 HDD operations and was successful.

The file in kdmrc was re-checked and found to have the correct log-in arranged.

I reinstalled the password in vc1, rebooted and have the same problem at log-in.

The entry in kdmrc is not functioning.

What action should I take to enable root log-in to function in kde4?

IMO, you really shouldn't allow root login to X. There is no good reason to do so.

Removed kdm from daemons and rebooted in vc1 mode with root log-in.

Reinstalled kdm in rc.conf and rebooted.

Root log-in is now enabled.
