Quickcam Messenger, output is black

Hi guys,

I installed Arch Linux (2.6.28-ARCH) yesterday, together with KDE 4.2. I knew the driver I need for my webcam is built into the kernel, but it does not output anything (black). I am in the video group, and the drivers are loaded. When I try to test my webcam in Kopete, the image turns black, but the LED on my camera is lit.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks in advance smile

EDIT:
I have just tried aMSN, and the webcam works (V4L2). What can be the cause of the problem that it's not working in Kopete?

Re: Quickcam Messenger, output is black

Hi,

how did you get the webcam to work?
I just got the same cam from a friend because I need it to test something for a small university project but i cannot get any application to work with that camera.

dmesg says:

qcmessenger [ 5.812304]: open users=1
qcmessenger [ 5.845280]: qc_sensor_init: call qc_sensor_setsize0 (324,248)
qcmessenger [ 5.846272]: set sensor=324x248 vwin=324x248
qcmessenger [ 5.858293]: close users=0
qcmessenger [ 5.858441]: open users=1
qcmessenger [ 5.891281]: qc_sensor_init: call qc_sensor_setsize0 (324,248)
qcmessenger [ 5.892274]: set sensor=324x248 vwin=324x248
qcmessenger [ 5.903314]: failed qc_v4l_ioctl()=-515
qcmessenger [ 5.903329]: close users=0
(same message repeated a few times)

"vlc v4l:// :v4l-vdev=/dev/video0" results in "[00000409] v4l demux error: cannot grab" and the OpenCV examples abort with the following error:
"HIGHGUI ERROR: V4L: device /dev/video0 is unable to capture video memory."

(Sorry for "hijacking" this thread, but it seems mostly solved and Davey might have a hint on what to ;-) )

Re: Quickcam Messenger, output is black

You are using qcmessenger module, you should use the gspca module, it gets loaded by default. It works perfectly in aMSN, no config/editing/tweaking needed. wink

Re: Quickcam Messenger, output is black

Hm, with that module /dev/video0 didn't even show up...
That's not really a problem any more because I got another cam since yesterday and it works out of the box (quickcam express PLUS).
But thanks anyway for your help smile
