newb mistake, forgot solution

I've done this once before, and i cant remember how i got around it.
So I've installed my arch system, and I am adding hal fam and gdm to the daemons.
All fine and well, except, I forgot to create a different user aside from root yet. So, gdm wont let root login, and I have no way of getting to a terminal (that I am aware of).
Also, the second thing I tried was use of a live cd. That's hard to come by, as some live cds cant/wont mount drives, and this is ext4 so distros such as DSL which I've used for purpooses similar to this in the past wont fly, since they dont have ext4 support built in yet.
Any ideas on how to get me to a terminal?

Essentially, all I need to do is nano /etc/rc.conf and delete gdm out of the daemons.

Thanks in advance.
