USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

Some time ago, I started getting this error when trying to mount any external device:

Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

I know there was a discussion about this, but as far as I unterstood, for others, it was only a warning to be ignored. Here, I can't get any of my drives mounted. I tried downgrading xorg-server (as suggested elsewhere), but it didn't help. Downgrading libx11 also failed since it couldn't satisfy some depencencies.

Thank you smile

edit:
Package versions are:
xorg-server 1.5.3-4
libx11 1.1.99.2-2

Re: USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

I was hoping that libx11 update (1.2.1) is going to change this situation, but nothing happened. Any ideas? smile

That error has nothing to do at all with your automounting troubles.

Look at the first bug in the corresponding section, or also here:

http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/13295?st … &closedto=

It's a problem with Xorg server updates, nothing to do with automounting.

Re: USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

Ok, I guess my question shifts to: What's wrong with my automounting? Or even better: Why does automounting return an error which has nothing to do with itself?

When trying to mount volumes with PCmanFM, it just raises an empty window with an empty button big_smile

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Neither creating preferences.fdi nor editing policykit.conf works.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

You haven't posted any errors, it's quite hard to debug your problem without any errors.

As for your topic title, since it has nothing to do with Xlib whatsoever, I changed it to avoid more confusion. People are already confused enough I'd say about the Xlib warning, even though it's completely harmless wink.

I will upload an image, so I don't cause any more confusion.

Re: USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

Wonder already replied to your problem.

Forget about the Xlib warnings and concentrate on the last message.
It tells you that you are not allowed to mount removable media.

In the HAL wiki, check specifically the section named 'Permission denied with automounter'.
Your message is listed as well as the fix.

Re: USB mounting problem * [SOLVED]

Ah, the comment mislead me. I deleted the first line with the $USER variable, and it didn't work. Now that i've changed it to my username, it works like a charm. Thank you all for your input.
