isolinux-FTP CD Install (SOLVED)

Well, this problem is what I've been dealing from long time ago, when I wanted to install the 2008.06 release, so I just went testing with a Virtual Box under Window$ Vi$ta.
My PC has two hardisk, around 550GB each. One has Windows Vista, and other has Ubuntu Intrepid. I've downloaded and burn some times alredy in the past, but it was all the same; I was kinda thinking the problem was how I burnt it, but I don't think that anymore... What happens is that Grub appears normally booting (I think I saw some "stage", but can't remind) and it just ends giving me a command line.. I've been thinking of trashin' Ubuntu (formatting the HD) and try if so could boot, but I don't know about that. I believe GRUB is in the MBR, and I heard you can "install" the windows boot and erase grub from there, because grub is what stops the CD from booting. My BIOS are correctly configured, at least that is what I think, and I've done it some times alredy...

Also, about partitions: Should I use the "auto" partition manager, or do it myself? How big should my Swap partition be (My PC has 8GB of RAM)?

Thanks in advance.. This is the best community I've seen for a long time smile

EDIT: Edited the title and just to let you now: [b] Peart helped me out saying that the isolinux installed would work, and so it did. Now my other problem is down there...

EDIT2: The second problem was tricky for me, but I just went there, and instead of looking for any solution; I just changed router security from WPA2 to WEP during instalation... When I finished all I installed grub in the wrong MBR ;_; Pityful, now I have to reinstall D:

The Arch install CD should drop you to a command line...where as the Beginners guide tells you, you must type

/arch/setup

To get the installer going.  If you haven't already-it is advised in the strongest terms possible to read and understand that Wiki (note how I used the Italic, underline AND bold markups there).  I say this, as your questions seem to say that you have not read that Wiki yet

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide

Most all of you questions are answered there.

Re: isolinux-FTP CD Install (SOLVED)

I'm sorry, but I do think you got me wrong. I alredy installed it (virtually) sometimes, and I know most of the procedure, there may be some things I may forget, but not the essencial ones. What I meant with my post is that Grub, somehow, stops the booting, and it ends giving me GRUB's command line, not the Arch's.

Re: isolinux-FTP CD Install (SOLVED)

Alxe,

The latest grub CD also failed for me in VirtualBox.  All I got was the grub prompt.  The isolinux-based installer worked just fine though.  You might want to try one of them out instead.

Re: isolinux-FTP CD Install (SOLVED)

The isolinux installer is only avaible for FTP? I'm afraid my connection might fall while downloading the packages and get something corrupt hmm
But anyways, it's worth the try. Thank you big_smile

Re: isolinux-FTP CD Install (SOLVED)

Okaay, downloaded the isolinux installer and burnt it: A success! But now I have problems with the wireless (During the install)
Well, I heard that with iwconfig <device> essid <essid> key <key> should work, but sadly, my password is encrypted with WPA/2. And from that stage, I don't know what to do. I've been looking for some information around the net, but couldn't find anything useful for my case... Right now I'm on the laptop, because I alredy formatted the Ubuntu hard drive, and lost the /boot/grub/ configurations; so grub doesn't load and can't do anything until I install arch...

Help?

Btw, sorry for double post ... hmm
