Basically put, I cannot listen to any audio disc. Normal data discs (ISO9660) work fine, but audio discs are completely unrecognizable.
I can confirm that the audio discs work (they work on another computer with windows). Also the main user is part of the optical group
Many applications, including VLC, cdparanoia and xmms are unable to detect or read the audio disc when its in the drive. This is the output that cdparania gives with cdparanoia -vsQ

004: Unable to read table of contents header
Unable to open disc. Is there an audio CD in the drive?
This is what VLC gives
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'cdda:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details.
And the log says
cdda error: could not read TOCHDR
cdda error: no audio tracks found
main error: open of `cdda:///dev/sr0' failed: could not create access
The computer im on currently has KDE4.2, and mounting normal data discs work without any issues. This is what fstab looks like (the computer only has one disc drive)

Anyone have any ideas

I just started getting this too and cd play had worked before.
Is it possible that my recent installantion of virtualbox PUEL could be breaking it? The only other recent changes were regular updates and some webkit stuff.
Arch x64 KdeMod 4.2

Reboots solve many things

Reading audio CDs from the host drive in VirtualBox VMs has been broken for a while now. (I don't know if that applies to the OP as well.)

The issue was just reading it normally, but if worked for me after a reboot.
