I encountered a strange problem that isn't described in other contexts.
my CUPS can only print test pages from its http control panel (localhost:631), but no apps can actually print from the protocol -- my printer is a HP Laserjet 3050 connected to a Windows XP host, and I use Postscript-HP driver for CUPS. the configuration goes like this:
my comp --> samba --> windows xp --> HP 3050
after this, i used sudo to start the to-print program, trying to relieve if it's a permission problem. as it turned out it's somthing else.
as i digg in deeper, i found that cups didn't even receive tasks from my apps. the TASK LIST VIEW from CUPS control panel showed only the test pages i successfully printed before, no other tasks that is showing STOPPED or ERROR or POSTPONED something like that, just a plain task list of test pages.
and i already added my user to the lp group as i understand that it's the printer group. can anyone help me with this ?

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

You set your printer as the default printer? Can be this...
Offline
yes, it's the default printer.
though i don't think if it matters, because everytime the program will prompt me which printer to use.

updates:
got a chance to connect the printer directly to my computer
omitting the network factor makes it worked...
BUT the recommended Postscript-HP driver didn't work, only Gutenprint
can it be odder ?

I'm having simlar problem.
Photosmart PPD got everything install and setup though all apps won't print
I think it's may be somthing to do with being asked for a password and login when i try to change anything at
localhost 6100
ideas welcomed!

The user for this password query should be root, and the password your root password.

great!
Now that I've set my printer as the default I can bring up the print box from my browser.
Looks Like I'm still having print probs though will write back after I try a bunch of things.
EDIT: looks like I CAN print from gvim...
that's a BIG help...
the other issues I will get through. GOOD to know I'm part way there!!!
