Have you come across anything interesting/cool Linux related?

So I'm always searching for projects, ideas or information that is interesting and linux related.

Has anyone come across anything like that in the recent little while?

You need to be more specific. What interests you? Otherwise, every open-source project in existence interests somebody (or it would likely cease to exist!)

Actually, this is really a pointless thread. Why did I bother posting?

Wow, what amazingly obnoxious replies. Seriously, why even bother making the effort to post? The OP obviously meant it as a generic "post interesting Linux-related things that you've stumbled on so that I and others can check them out", which really is a valid topic imo.

Here's the latest interesting thing that I've found: http://oneswarm.cs.washington.edu/index.html
*edit* It's not specifically Linux related, but it's interesting and it works on Linux

That pretty cool.

I remember I once found a program for linux, that allowed you to emit a short radio signal using your CTR monitor. I cannot find the link but it was a very interesting concept.

Also this was very useful:

If you are like me the sole user of your computer, why do you need a login manager? You can start X from boot and autologin with out the need for one.

Haha, that is from the UW, which is where I go to school.

Anyway, an older project that I've just discovered but have yet to delve into is Unison. I'm thinking about trying it to sync my schoolwork between my Desktop (which dual boots into windows for games) and Laptop.

I have always thought Time Machine was pretty neat software, even for being Apple roll smile.  This FlyBack utility looks great though - has anyone tried it?

Re: Have you come across anything interesting/cool Linux related?

Did you know that the tv/computer displays in the dining rooms at Jack In The Box run linux?  I was eating at one last week when they had to reboot for some reason and from across the room I thought the booting messages looked familiar.  When I got close enough to read the screen it was blank except for two Tux penguins sitting there.  I thought that was interesting and linux related.

Is backintime the fruit of that? Or are you still working on a fork? If so, please do something about the cool 3d stuff!

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

Re: Have you come across anything interesting/cool Linux related?

I happened to stumble upon Glendix while browsing Reddit (/r/linux, IIRC) a few days ago.
