Automate kbuildsycoca4
I found through searching the forums that Arch does not automatically run kbuildsycoca4 after installing packages, which is why one has to run it manually to update the kicked menu. Is there a way of automating this process as it seems strange this does not occur with other distros?

KDE does this itself. This was just a bug in 4.2.0, but is fixed in 4.2.1.

KDE 4.2.1 is in the main repos, and will be in KDEmod soon. If that fixes the problem, please edit your first post to add [SOLVED] to yout thread title
