I've been working on a little project for a few days and the few people who have seen it have liked where it was going, so now it's time to get opinions and assistance from the community. Stop by our temporary website here and tell us what you think.
If you are willing to contribute to the project in some way send me an email at ghost1227@archlinux.us telling me what you want to do or what ideas you have. I'd like to see this project come together sometime during the next month for official release in April.

Nice work.
May be we can have a system where every month start we will have a "Request for articles" .Community members can submit articles/views on archlinux/their thought for improvement etc during the first two weeks of the month and by the month end the magazine can be released. The key would be active participation of the community.

ghost1227, I don't know if it might be useful for you but I can take some pictures and write a small testimonial about archlinux usage on a small computer laboratory which I manage, on my university...
I really like the idea about creating the AUM!
They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

There's a forums set aside just for that purpose here

Sure! I'd love to see an article about how someone is using Arch at school/work/outside of home in general.
I really like the idea about creating the AUM!
Thanks!

@Ghost1227:
Good work so far, and I can certainly see how it could effectively complement the Arch Newsletter. Your introduction in the "Editor's Desk" section explains this well.
I hope you get a decent community repsonse to your initiative - it has the potential to provide much "added value" to Arch. (I'm also thinking how the likes of the MepisLovers forums added a great injection of community life to the Mepis distro, when the official forums were stagnant.)

I'm loving the magazine idea, and I've also got an idea for a contribution.
A section, or article, for the best screenshot(s) of the month. This would include detailed information on the setup (configurations, running apps, etc...), as well as [a thumbnail with a link to] the screenshot.
Of course, I would be open to contributing this article myself, seeing as how it would involve some effort in collecting information from the original poster.

We have a regional GNU/Linux magazine called GNUzilla and although it's not in english I belive you could learn a lot from it, how they do their layouts or artwork (all with free software) and find interesting topics you could cover too: http://gnuzilla.fsnserbia.org
You need to install an RTFM interface.

This is very awesome! I read the "first" issue of Arch User and loved it I enjoyed your explanation and comparison of all of the WM/DE's as well as the advertisement of an Arch USB key at the end - that is so awesome to have an ad pertaining to arch linux and supporting people who make products around it.

OK... so first the good news. I have a few people who are willing to contribute.
Now the bad news... I need a few more. I have a new baby in the house, plus my responsibilities as a TU and with the newsletter, plus my job... I don't have the time to write every article by myself. So... if we want to see this actually happen (and I really do)... I need two or three more volunteers.

Quick update... Issue 1 of AUM is coming along nicely. I'd still like to see more contributors on at least a part time basis, but it won't kill me not to get any. The AUM also now has a new home at http://archuser.org

nslookup archuser.org -> not found
dig @resolver1.opendns.com www.archuser.org -> finds 67.215.65.132
So I add 67.215.65.132 to /etc/hosts
curl -I archuser.org -> times out
*sigh*

I loved the mag! I shot you off an email.
Crap... today must be one of those weird writing idea days. I just had another thought for an article.
How about one of aesthetics? A sort of general desktop beautification tips. More along the lines of style rather than the tweaks themselves.... Hmm... This might almost be a public service. All those solidly black on black with black trim screenshots... ~wonders of muttering about the merits of colors~
I keep getting distracted from my webserver project...
huh? oooh... shiny!

The response to the first two issues of Arch User has been outstanding! I couldn't have asked for more! Only one problem... The small group of contributors we currently have can only come up with so much so fast. Hence, I must once again turn to the community as a whole. If you have something to share, please step forward! Either post here or send me an email at ghost1227@archuser.com!
