Hi there,
when I click on the "Spelling" menu item in Kile, I get the following dialog:
I've chosen "German" in my KDE settings under "Regional & Language" --> "Spell Checker" --> "Default Language"
I also have installed:
schorsch@archie:~$ sudo pacman -Qs spell
local/aspell 0.60.6-4
A spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell
local/aspell-de 20030222-1
German dictionary for aspell
local/enchant 1.4.2-1
A wrapper library for generic spell checking
local/hunspell 1.2.8-1
Spell checker and morphological analyzer library and program
schorsch@archie:~$
What's wrong here? And what's the error dialog telling me about my PATH variable? Which path do I have to add?
TIA,
Blackhole

Hi,
afaik Kile is looking for ispell (and ispell-de for the german dictionary) instead of aspell. Try installing than and see whether that works.

Great that worked. But now I only have English spell checking in Kile, although I've chosen German in my KDE settings. I assume the KDE settings only refer to aspell. So how can I get the German dictionary for ispell? There is no package such as "ispell-de" in the repository.

You can find ispell-de in the AUR.
Edit: There's an option to choose the language at the bottom of the spellchecking-dialog in Kile [Tools->Spelling->Language]

Ah, ok, I'll ask my yoghurt. ;-)
Just because I'm curious: Is it correct that aspell is ispell's successor? So if there ever will be a KDE 4 version of Kile it will probably use aspell, right? Just trying to see the connections here...
I mean after all there's a reason behind the fact that ispell-de isn't part of the repository whereas aspell-de is.

Well it seems that aspell (latest version of aspell: 0.60.6, released in April 2008) is more recent than ispell (3.3.02 from June 2005), so it might be a good idea to use aspell.
But I must admit I have no clue if this is a problem with arch packaging or upstream.

I wonder if anyone knows a solution now, because there's no Dutch package for ispell.

Add this in $HOME/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals :
[KSpell]
KSpell_Client=1
KSpell_DictFromList=1
KSpell_Dictionary=en_GB
KSpell_Encoding=11
KSpell_NoRootAffix=0
KSpell_RunTogether=0
