Problems with j2re 1.5

Hello.

Something seems to keep me away from j2re 1.5, I simply can't get any applet working with it, it's frustrating. On some applets, the java vm takes 100% cpu without doing anything and freezes Firefox completely, on other occasions it just crashes the entire browser, and in no case so far has java 1.5 worked for me.

This is the message I get on the console when Firefox crashes:

[sweiss@raviv2 ~]$ mozilla-firefox
/opt/mozilla-firefox/lib/firefox-0.10.1/run-mozilla.sh: line 159:  2066 Illegal instruction     "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Can you please help me solve it?

Re: Problems with j2re 1.5

I don't seem to be having this problem.  I'm using the pacman installs of j2re j2sdk and mozilla-firefox.  I use applets everyday and I've not ran into this yet.

Is it one particular applet that keeps hanging your firefox?  Is it one I could try hitting also?  Is it just applets or any java application running outside of firefox?

Seems to be just applets. Trying to play Pool on Yahoo crashes my Firefox, if you could please check it out.

Re: Problems with j2re 1.5

Could it be that my system specs are not enough for j2re 1.5? My computer is a P3 450Mhz with 256mb ram.

THose specs should be all right, I'd think.

I don't know if this would work, but what if you access the applet URL via appletviewer? this will tell you if the prob is Java or Firefox's plugin.

Sorry to be annoying, but I just can't seem to find a direct URL to a java applet. Can anyone please give me a sample?

Re: Problems with j2re 1.5

Thoguht I needed a .class url for appletviewer at first.

Anyway, after I started the appletviewer with some applet, it worked, and then Yahoo games also worked, but other java applets failed to work.

I'm out of ideas, I guess Sun doesn't like my machine much.

Re: Problems with j2re 1.5

Hi folks,

I did a fresh install of arch yesterday (0.7 beta1), and pacman'ed mozilla 1.7.3 and j2re/j2sdk 1.5.  To test the java plugin, I went to games.yahoo.com and opened a crossword puzzle.  The applet loaded, but I couldn't type anything into the crossword. I didn't notice if my CPU usage went nuts or not.

I removed java 1.5 (+ rm -rf ~/.java) and got 1.4.2_06 straight from sun.  Everything works fine with the older version.

Maybe Sun's new jvm doesn't like fr-latin1 keyboards?  Or maybe it just refuses to let me do nerdy crosswords?!?
