suppose my username is myusername and my password mypassword, and I'm at the login prompt (not GDM/Slim etc).
I type 'myusername', enter, and 'mypassword'. When I do that too quickly I end up seeing :
mPassword:
I.e. the first letter of my the password I typed, m, isn't used as input but just displayed. Is there a way to change this behaviour so that the 'm' will be used as input?

I'd say the obvious answer is type slower... or at least wait longer before you begin typing...
That works usually but those times when I type fast (I guess I just type fast) this really annoys me. It seems like something that could be fixed easily, like store the input in some buffer.

This really annoys me too, when su'ing or starting a new terminal window...
The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

What component is responsible for the login? Is there somewhere I could file this bug (which I think it is, a usability bug) ?

Usually it logs in anyway. I think just the display of the prompt is the issue, but once you hit <enter> after username, it knows what you typed.

If that would be the case I wouldn't mind, but the login really fails.

If I type the complete password again after 'mPassword:' all goes well, but else just 'ypassword' gets entered.
