Hello,
I've been playing around with Arch Linux for a while, and have got X to work excellently, but only as root.
This, of course, is a problem. I have made another user account that works, but the problem is that X won't start. Well, actually, the X server will start, but any client connections will be refused. I have done "chmod -r <username> /home/<username." and have tried both "xhost local:<hostname>" and "xhost +" (which I promptly changed after it didn't work). The odd thing is that "xinit" starts up, gets to the nVidia splash, then just crashes. No errors. Even with "startkde" or "startxfce4" "startx", on the hand, will give an "Error locking .Xauthority" error.
I have searched around and still can't find anything of use.

post the output of the command groups within that user.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

you have to many groups(not that is the problem in your case)
i suggest you to remove that username and his home directory(before backing up your files from there) and add it again. add the username to the groups: video audio optical storage users power

Alright, thanks, I'll try that.
EDIT: tried it, no dice. Still just crashes, no errors.
EDIT2: Oddly, "startxfce4" works. There must be problem with xterm, methinks.
