xfce 4.6 : no more X after upgrade !

I just ran a pacman -Syu.

I'm using gdm as a session manager,
and xfce4 as environnment.

After upgrade ... gdm login tell me

no exec line in session file xfce4

then tries to switch to a failsafe session... alas xterm does not exist (i never installed that old thing) => complete crash of gdm.

I tried to kill gdm (using gdm-stop),
and then startxfce4 from console. (no startx available btw !?)

This time it crashes, because xinit does not exist.
(i checked : noxinit in /usr/bin or whatnot)

What is missing there ?

Feels like the dependances are missing something, but what.

Help will be much appreciated ...

Re: xfce 4.6 : no more X after upgrade !

I reply to self.

first : I intalled xorg-xinit.

So i could run a x session without a fuss with startxfce4.

The gdm problem was too obvuous to be missed... so I missed it.

There was an empty file named :

/etc/X11/sessions/xfce4.desktop

and a full healthy file called

/etc/X11/sessions/xfce.desktop

Force GDM to use the right one, and I was done.  (directly from GDM invite, "session" button)

Yet it is rather annoying for a newbie to be dropped to nothing but command line.
(like people I try to "sell" linux ease of use and upgrade ... or like me barely woke up on a sunday morning ;-) )

If it doesn't bother you, removing a login manager and typing startxfce4 whenever you login to a shell should be faster.
