KWord creation error

Whenever I open a .doc document using KWrite I get the following error:

Could not open
/home/ralvez/docuement_name.doc.
Reason: Creation error

Does anyone have an idea as to what this means and how to fix it? Or is this a bug?

R.

Re: KWord creation error

doc files are binary garbage; kwrite is an editor for plaintext files.

Re: KWord creation error

While I would agree with your assessment of KWord I have used the program in the past 3 years to convert documents to HTML with a great deal of success.
The problem just happened to show up in the past few days, indicating some issue that has been created in very recent time despite of our "taste" for better software to deal with documents, like OOO or some thing else.

Re: KWord creation error

Wait, KWord or KWrite? They're two separate things, IIRC. KWrite is a simple text editor, and KWord is a full-featured WYSIWYG document editor.

Oh! My mistake. KWord.
I've also updated the title of the thread.
Thanks Ranguvar!

Re: KWord creation error

So... no one has this problem?
I find it incredible, sine I have it in two different machines.
I was under the impression that it could be an upstream problem but perhaps it is an Arch issue that has gone unnoticed since most people do not use Kword in favour of OOo.

Re: KWord creation error

Yes, I have this problem. No clue, though.

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.
