e17

Yes I know that e17 is a prealpha. But, Lxde it's broken and xfce is so big to my computer.

I get that e17 works in my computer (ue!!), now I've some trouble.

1º (most important) When I plug an usb stick, a new menu appears in the desktop but I can see anything with evince. I only install hal and fam. Both are in rc.conf, I open e17 typing xinit or startx , I don't use entrance.

2º Exist a web browser for e17?

3º Exist a text editor for e17?

Thanks to everybody. (maybe these question must be in newbie corner, if you think, please move it)

Re: e17

1) Don't use E17's file manger if you want to keep your data. It's not ready for daily use, and it's one of the few areas that's keeping E17 unreleased. Most of E17 is release quality and not alpha software.
2) No
3) No

You're best bet is to use GTK2 software; There's a lot of it that's standalone.

Re: e17

Hi halcor,
1º You should see your USB stick in file manager (such as Thunar or PCManFM). Don't use the e17 file manager (it is really alpha).

2º E17 comes without browser, so you can choose anyone you want. I am happily using Opera in e17.

3º I don't know about text editor integrated into e17, but you can use any text editor you want; e.g. mousepad.

A lot of that software doesn't work very well, and some of it is no longer developed. Just so everyone knows, get-e.org is long dead, so it's not a good resource anymore. The newer site is here:

Re: e17

Ok, thanks, I've installed Pcmanfm. but when I try to open the usb sitck with it. It give me an error. In adittion, when I try to open from desktop, e17 open the e17 file manager. so:
1a) How can I solve the trouble of the usb stick? :: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/479/2009 … 68szk6.png {the folder don't exist}
1b) How can I do to pcmanfm will be the default option.

2) Ok, I installed kazehakase, but I prefer use an etk application
3) The same, I don't find an etk editor so I installed medit.

Thanks.

Re: e17

Edit: Should read the OP more carefully.

Anyway I think pcmanfm is complaining since you're not using a (pam friendly) login manager. I think it wants a few pam modules which are loaded by some graphical login managers. Maybe someone else can provide more insight.

Re: e17

1a) This might just be a problem with not having an application that will open that .png file.  gqview and gpicview are simple dependency-free apps for viewing photos and the like.  You should be able to right-click on the file to open and set the default application to open that file and pcmanfm will use that app in the future. Edit: OR it could be a problem with policy-kit and hal that people have been having issues with, lately.  Just do a forum search and you'll see all the posts about mounting usb sticks.  For instance: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65154

Also, to stop using the e17 file manager just go to Menu->Settings->Modules and unload the File Manager module.

1b) I'm not sure you can set a default file manager in e17, unless you're using the file manager module.  I normally just set up pcmanfm in my favorites menu so I can right-click anywhere on the screen and click on pcmanfm.

2) If you're looking for lightweight, I've used epiphany, seamonkey, midori (not always stable but useable for me) on an older machine but firefox works well for lots of folk.  Kazehakase had some quirks that I didn't like.

3) I'd suggest leafpad as a simple editor as I believe mousepad will bring in some xfce4 dependencies.

Re: e17

Thanks.

I quit e e17 file manager module, I've installed pcmanfm, also I finally install midori, is smaller than kazehakase. Epiphany is so bigger (and install half gnome).

Now I want to know If i can put a taskbar in a container and panel (like pypanel) in the container. Ibox only put the minimized windows, I wanna that put every windows that I've got open.

Thanks.

Re: e17

Menu > Settings > Modules > load the taskbar module. Also, there isn't a way to load pypanel in a shelf in E17. If you need a system tray, use stalonetray (see wiki).

Re: e17

Thanks, Finally I've got a little trouble with e17, and I try to use lxde instead. But I come back to e17 when the file manager works fine, and amsn2 (etk) are in a Beta or RC.

So I use this post in order to reinstall (I've always has the same troubles...) Thanks! smile

Re: e17

Just to add that your PCManFm error with your USB stick is quite common. Look for HAL in the wiki.
