[Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

I switched from ubuntu to Arch some days back. But I have this compiz problem in arch.. I get only 280fps in arch glxgears, where as in ubuntu I used to get around 800fps.

I am thinking that this is something to do with xorg.conf.. Am I right??

Mine is macbook3,1

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I tried to tweak my xorg.conf based on this ubuntu xorg log file.

Update:
I added this to xorg.con and now glxgears fps is 350

EndSection

Any suggestions..

Re: [Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

Hi,
this occurs when you are trying to use too large resolution, often on external screen.
You card has the highest possible resolution 2048  (I believe). So try to add this to "Screen" section:

Virtual 2048 1050

Re: [Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

Thanks for the reply..

My screen resolution is 1280 800. So, I added virtual 1280 800.. But No change sad

After adding DRI mode 0666, compiz started working with this

LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace ccp (found in compiz fusion board)

What is this LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1

Thanks

Re: [Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

This has been said many, many, many times in the forums: glxgears is not intended to be a benchmark. Its performance can vary due to many factors. Please use an appropriate benchmark or at least an often-played-game for comparison purposes instead of glxgears.

For instance, I perform identical in games on arch vs debian. However, glxgears in debian is about 5 times higher fps average. In other distros with identical performance, they have much lower glxgears fps than arch. Etc etc.

As for the rest of the post, reading now.. maybe I can find something wrong, if there is anything.

It looks like this post points at precisely what ProgDan was saying. Show us the screen section after your changes perhaps?

If that's no good, you may want to back up your stuff and refer to the xorg section of the arch beginners guide on generating a good xorg.conf, particularly with 'hwd'. You -might- have better luck. If you still have your xorg.conf from ubuntu (or can boot into the livecd and perhaps grab it from there correctly configured?), you could do that too to save time.

Re: [Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

have you tried going without an xorg.conf? Xorg should autodetect everything on its own.
Unless your using a propritary driver or some special options you shouldnt need to set anything manually.

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.old

2 of my systems with radeon cards and one with intel all run without an xorg.conf just fine, and thats with compiz working, and the few games i run working fine.

Re: [Solved] Can someone convert this to xorg.conf

I read in many posts that glxgears is not for benchmarking.. But what are the reason for such large differences between ubuntu and arch?? Just curious..

If xorg.conf is removed, compiz works with LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 and glxgears speed is 280..

This is the output of compiz-check

./compiz-check
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

There has been (at least) one error detected with your setup:
 Error: Software Rasterizer in use

I also checked compiz-benchmark plugin... The max fps I get is 60 and min is 45 (without xorg.conf).

With my present xorg.conf in compiz benchmark, max is 75 and min is 45

What is the normal FPS you get in compiz benchmark??
